As the weather gets warmer and the sun comes out more, the best adventures are the ones spent outside. In the last week, I have sat next to the Jordan River near Dunn Meadow twice. Both times have been absolutely refreshing and have helped me relieve a ton of stress. I have found that going on a COVID safe adventure doesn’t necessarily need to be huge and elaborate. It can be just as simple as sitting outside and soaking in some much needed sunshine.
What I have been doing is bring a nice drink, snacks, a book, and blanket out to the area next to the IMU. Wifi is not always the best in these outdoor spaces, but there are plenty of other things to keep oneself occupied. I find that if I bring too much to do, I just end up resorting to more child-like activities. As seen in the image above, I have resorted to making little houses out of sticks. If you visit this area, there are two of them in the grass. One is a little rough looking, but the other is larger and much more sturdy. I expect to only get more elaborate with my construction, so make sure to keep an eye out in the grass around the IMU.
Along with building fairy houses, I have also been looking for treasures in the river. I have found quite a collection of fossils, rocks, and broken glass pieces. I have now decided to clear out the glass from the river and collect it in jars. The most interesting items I have found are tubular shaped fossils. I have done some research and I think they are plant stems or coral, but I can’t be too sure.
Overall, I give these adventures a 10/10. I think that these kinds of activities are calming and just what I needed with all the stress of work and school. If you are feeling the pressure currently, going outside and exploring your surroundings is the perfect way to chill out.
