Welcome to our conference website page

For many nineteenth- and twentieth-century German women, religious faith was the foundation on which they built their lives. Yet despite the growth of women’s and gender studies, the diverse aspects of women’s religious experience have not yet been the subject of systematic examination. Our conference “Women, Emotions, and Religion” brings together twenty-seven scholars to address this significant lacuna in the scholarship. The conference, planned for June 2022 at the IU Gateway in Berlin, will have a workshop format. Participants will pre-circulate papers of 3,000 to 4,000 words in length, which will be considered in individual sessions in Berlin. Expert commentators will moderate each session and guide the discussion with comments and questions.
Participants
In response to our call for papers, over ninety scholars from over a dozen countries across the world submitted proposals. We have selected seventeen presenters and seven commentators from seven countries, participants who reflect a mix of senior European and American scholars, junior scholars as well as two graduate students.
