We asked a recent IUB graduate Robert McAnnelly what advice he would give to freshman.
The full college experience involves much more than what is found in the classroom.
“College” doesn’t take place in the classroom alone. IU has tons of clubs, volunteering opportunities and experiences to partake in. There truly is something out there for every single person attending IU. These experiences outside the classroom could define your college career.
Personally, my involvement outside the classroom steered my course for the future much more than my time spent in class. This is not to say you shouldn’t value your time in class, however. Just recognize that while the classroom deserves your full focus, you will only be there a few hours a day. Be active, not passive, and make the most of every day at IU.
What started as a leadership conference in Los Angeles resulted in an internship opportunity and my eventual full-time accounting career. Indiana was the only place I had ever called home until graduating from Indiana University. Getting involved expanded my network in more ways than I ever thought possible.
Robert earned his degree from Kelley in Accounting and Finance and was an IU Peer Coach and Cox Exploratory Scholar.
