As I am certain that you can all relate, there’s a lot going on with Union Board this year. There are countless stories to tell and updates to share. Additionally, the IMU continues to balance its historical significance with meeting the needs of today’s (and tomorrow’s) students.
In order to better share stories about Union Board, the Union, and the John Whittenberger Society, members of the JWS Board, Union Board, and IMU staff have developed a new JWS Communications Plan. Our goal is to proportionately share stories that cover four major buckets: Union Board, the IMU, JWS Society, and events. On a regular basis, members of the JWS Advisory Board Membership Committee (led by Susan Burns), Union Board (new VP of Marketing, Sohile Ali), and the IMU staff (Mara Dahlgren and me) will guide the communications plan’s creation and implementation.
Not only are there a number of stories to share but there are a number of ways to better share these stories with members of the JWS Society.
Here are some of the new channels and methods to communicate with all of you:
- New Blog (blogs.iu.edu/ubalumni)
- Sometimes, we have more say, and we want to say it on a digital platform. This IU-supported blog will provide plenty of stories, pictures, and sometimes even video content.
- E-Newsletter – Coming to your email inbox four times a year
- Instagram Account (@IUUBalumni) – showcasing photos from today’s board as well as plenty of #throwback images.
- Photo website (iustudentaffairs.smugmug.com) – this is the new site that now holds many of Student Affairs’ photos (the IMU is one of many departments in IU’s Division of Student Affairs). Any Union Board, IMU, and JWS photos will be included on this new photo site.
In addition, you continue to find updates from the following:
As for the printed newsletter that is mailed out: you’ll still get one in March, giving you in-depth updates you’re looking for, including more information about Biennial this October – Looking forward to seeing you then!. However, we are reevaluating our mail approach and you will likely see some changes in the material mailed out to JWS members.
Of course, if you ever have a life update, anecdote, or just a memory to share, reach out to us at the new JWS Advisory Board email address – ubalumni@iu.edu or post in the Facebook group.
Best,
James McHaley
