Sunday marked less than a week before the trip is over, but it was also our kayaking and snorkeling trip. For many, this adventure was their first time, but the thought of a new excursion excited me. So, nine of us traveled to Naousa, at the northern end of the island, where we met with our two kayaking instructors, Alex and Martell.
If you didn’t know you need to wear a skirt while kayaking, well you do! The skirt prevents water from getting in the boat that goes around your torso and shoulders. Once we put on our life jackets and were given proper instruction, we broke into pairs and starting on our way.
Our instructors were as enthusiastic as we were. Our first stop was a beach where we had snacks of fresh peaches and sesame seed bars. We then swam and snorkeled in the Aegean Sea.
Back in the sea and the rhythmic motion of kayaking. We maneuvered through rocks while sightseeing – not everyone can say they have kayaked in the Aegean Sea. Our next destination was another beach where we had an amazing lunch with fresh melon.
After returning we were all eager to shower and wash the salt water off of us. The trip was very relaxing, adventurous, and memorable all at once. It will be an experience that we will never forget.
Personally this trip helped me to overcome my fear of water. With the help of Albert and Tony, I was able to relax. Leaping right on in, not only changed my perspective of stepping out on faith but my whole outlook on life itself.
