A three-day weekend was carved out of our very busy work schedule for whatever we wanted to do, time permitting (thank you, Albert and Thomas!). Four of my classmates and I decided to take a trip through the Aegean Sea to Mykonos and Santorini. I am writing this blog post on the ferry to Santorini now, after a full day of experiencing the unique and beautiful island of Mykonos.
Mykonos is known for its party life – and understandably, too. It wasn’t hard to accidentally stumble upon a bar or club while we walked around. The night life screamed “tourist trap”; every restaurant boasted a grinning man with desperation in his eyes, idling by the menu board out front, just waiting to tell you what his restaurant had to offer. We embraced the expensive food and pushy vendors with reluctance. (The waffle and gelato place is easily the best thing I had on that island.)
What the night of Mykonos offered us seemed to melt away with the sun. We explored the cliffs and beaches the next day, walking all throughout the coast to see just what Mykonos had to offer that wasn’t a disco bar. It was beautiful. I miss it.
We have two more days in our weekend. Santorini, here we come.
