We are excited to welcome you to Fall 2020 and look forward to providing you with a quality learning experience. Format for your Fall 2020 classes has been updated in the schedule of classes. Difficult decisions about how our classes would be offered had to be made. Our decisions took into consideration your preferences for different methods of course delivery (face-to-face, online, hybrid), your health and safety as well as the health and safety of faculty and staff, demands of the university, and social distancing requirements/classroom size.

Campus-specific Instructional Plans
Information about each campus’s instructional plans for BSW and MSW courses is below. No changes have been made to MSW Direct courses or Labor Studies courses, which is why they are not mentioned below. Please note that no matter what the planned instructional format is at this time, courses may move entirely online at any point during the semester.
IUPUI

IUPUI Office of Undergraduate Admissions Return Plan
IUPUI BSW
With a few exceptions, BSW courses on the IUPUI campus will primarily utilize the Online Interactive (OI) instructional format. The majority of course content will be delivered online asynchronously. Students are expected to come to campus for one face-to-face class session, and up to two additional class sessions can be held face-to-face or by synchronous live video instruction at the instructor’s discretion.
University College has stressed the need to engage undergraduate students, particularly freshman and sophomores, on-campus. To that end, one section of SWK-S102 Understanding Diversity in a Pluralistic Society will use an in-person (P) instructional format. This section is a part of the social justice Themed Learning Community (TLC). Other exceptions to the OI instructional format are SWK-S331 Generalist Social Work Practice I: Theory and Skills and SWK-S481 Social Work Practicum I. SWK-S331 will follow the Hybrid-Distance (HD) format that uses a combination of asynchronous and synchronous online instruction. Students will meet synchronously online every other week. No on-campus class sessions are required.
Field seminars will be online and synchronous.
On-campus face-to-face class sessions and any synchronous live video instruction should be well planned and meaningful. All synchronous course instruction should be recorded and made available in Canvas for later viewing. Social distancing and use of face coverings by faculty and students will be required per university guidelines for any on-campus class sessions.
IUPUI MSW
IUPUI MSW classes that are foundation or concentration levels will be asynchronous and online using the MSW Direct modules. S685 and S686 will also be asynchronous and online, using the Direct modules. All other focus area courses will be online but will include 4 synchronous online sessions.
Field seminars will be online and synchronous.
Any synchronous live video instruction should be well planned and meaningful. All synchronous course instruction should be recorded and made available in Canvas for later viewing.
IUPUI PHD
All PhD classes will be online and have synchronous meetings. All synchronous course instruction should be recorded and made available in Canvas for later viewing.

IUB BSW
Several courses will be online only – our GenEd courses are required to be online by the university this fall. The courses which are not entirely online will be hybrid, using asynchronous content and assessment of learning for the majority of the class with very small group face-to-face interaction sessions. The exact numbers will be based on the classroom space we are assigned, in order to achieve the IUB requirement of 60 square feet per person. An example might be: 6 students attend the first 50 minutes, 6 attend the second 50 minutes, 6 attend the third 50 minutes.
Field seminars will be online and synchronous.
On-campus face-to-face class sessions and any synchronous live video instruction should be well planned and meaningful. All synchronous course instruction should be recorded and made available in Canvas for later viewing. Social distancing and use of face coverings by faculty and students will be required per university guidelines for any on-campus class sessions..
IUB MSW
IUB MSW classes will be following the normal hybrid schedule with the class census dependent on the numbers allowable in each room. This may require splitting a face to face session, where half of the students come at one time and then we switch, or alternating days for students. The caveat is if a faculty member has requested to teach online only, that request will be honored.

IUN BSW
At IU Northwest we have been encouraged not to move face to face courses to online, so most courses are still available face-to-face which were originally scheduled to be offered that way. Courses that were already scheduled to be online have remained so. A few face-to-face courses have been changed to be online with synchronous online meetings. Details are still being worked out for face-to-face class sections to determine max class size allowable while following distancing protocols. More information will be coming.

Changing Your Fall 2020 Course Schedule
Updates to the Fall 2020 Schedule of Classes have been finalized. Students who want to adjust their schedules due to the instruction mode (face-to-face, online, hybrid) should do so through the campus registrar after July 15th. Please be sure to discuss any course changes with your academic advisor to ensure you meet degree requirements.
Masks and Social Distancing Requirements
While on campus and in classrooms, all students must wear a mask and maintain social distancing in accordance with University guidelines. IU will provide two face masks to each student before the Fall 2020 semester begins.
All IU students are asked to follow all of the CDC’s critical COVID behavioral guidelines for at least 14 days prior to arriving on campus, including wearing a mask, physical distancing, and avoiding large events.
IUSSW Offices, Student Services, and Faculty Availability
All IUSSW offices will reopen to students and visitors after August 1st. The reception area of the school will be open and Student Services Coordinators will have some availability for in-person advising. All Student Services Coordinators, other relevant staff, and faculty will be available by email, phone, regularly scheduled Zoom office hours, and by Zoom appointment. Contact the program director on your campus if you are unable to make contact with staff or faculty.
