The first day of my seventh week at Do It Best, I was continuing my research into best practices and spent most of the day researching again, yay! :). I worked with another member of the analytics team, a database developer who would be doing much of the actual moving process, to learn as much as possible about moving best practices.
On Friday, my second day, I collaborated with the team’s data scientists to create visual representations of hidden margins in POS data. Inadvertently, I was able to learn about installing software, as one of the data scientists was trying to install Anaconda, a program that allows you to install multiple Python add-ons. After Anaconda was up and ready to go, I learned by observation as the two data scientists were able to extract meaning from the available POS data to give the users the needed information. It was very exciting! Throughout the day, I noticed how similar my role as a librarian was to their roles in data science. We both researched into a problem with a given amount of information, using all sorts of available methods, to provide a user with the information they need. It was definitely one of the best and most helpful days I’ve had so far!
