Each year the English Department sponsors a writing contest open to all IU Southeast undergraduate students. Writers of short stories, poems, flash fiction, and creative nonfiction are invited to submit entries. The deadline for submissions is March 1.

The Dirt Bags Art Club will be holding a Valentine ceramics sale on February 11 from 2:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Canary Club wine bar in Louisville. The fund raiser is being held to raise money for the students to go to the national ceramics conference.

The opening reception for “Debra Clem: A Retrospective Exhibition, 1995-2023” was held on Thursday, January 11th. The exhibition chronicles nearly 30 years of Debra Clem’s paintings and is a beautiful, colorful, and powerful walkthrough of her illustrious career. As many of you know, Debra is the Painting Area Head in the Fine Art Program, and she has worked with countless students, faculty, and staff throughout her career at IU Southeast. She will be retiring soon, so we’re thrilled to celebrate her work in our gallery and kick off the 2024 year with this exhibition. Please share the news of the reception with friends and colleagues and encourage our students to attend as well. The exhibition will run through February 15.
Our Mater*ial opened as the first Barr Gallery exhibition of the Fall 2023 semester. Show dates ran from August 21 to September 8.
It was an artistic collaboration among IU Southeast Adjunct Instructor of Photography and photographer, Amy Seibert, along with abstract painter and mixed media visual artist, Kelly Zellers, and poet, writer, and teacher, Sarah Yost. They brought their mediums into conversation with each other and larger feminist themes through each artist’s visual representations in four categories: animal, vegetable, mineral, and light.
They created a cohesive compilation of visually and conceptually interconnected pieces that explored ideas from multiple perspectives using diverse media and textiles with recurring dark color palettes punctuated by fluorescent highlights evoking themes of bioluminescence.
