In addition to the traditional paper archives and audiovisual materials in the Martin collection there are several bound books and a box of index cards that have me a bit stumped. I know that generally archival institutions will try to weed out published books from their collections, but Martin’s include notes that may be relevant to understanding his research. Additionally, some former students donated copies of their dissertations and theses to Martin. There is relatively little material capturing his teaching career, so I feel that these are a valuable addition to the collection but they will certainly need special housing considerations. There is a bookshelf at the archives that I believe, but still have to check, holds books from collections. If they are housed here, they will need to be labeled in a way that connects them to the greater collection. I will also have to learn how to note such separations in the finding aid.
