I have made the time-consuming decision to link everything I can to the Library of Congress Name Authority File and LC subject headings. He worked with a great number of accomplished colleagues, and I thought it was particularly important to link their data to the name authority file. Other BFC/A finding aids do not necessarily go into this level of detail, but I made this decision for two reasons. First, I have the opportunity to really devote myself to this single collection this semester, so I want to make the finding aid as robust as I possibly can. Secondly, this finding aid can be accessed by virtually anyone through finding aid aggregating services like the OCLC’s ArchivesGrid. Consider Martin’s colleague Manthia Diawara; he is an accomplished filmmaker and professor, currently at NYU. Suppose Diawara donates his own materials to an NYU affiliated archive. I want to ensure the possibility of eventually linking Martin’s collection to such holdings if they exist.
