While working here my supervisor Ronda has generously invited me to participate in IU EAD working group meetings. I will be attending my second one later today. The working group consists of librarians, archivists, metadata specialists, etc. across the greater IU network. Members at different IU campuses join virtually. The main topic covered is the eventual transition from IU Archives Online to Archives Space. I do not anticipate I will be at IU when the transition finally happens, but it has been insightful to see how long the process actually takes.
Group members have been aware of the looming changes for quite some time, and there is a healthy amount of skepticism about Archives Space although there is some excitement as well. More so than the transition even, the meetings are a great look into how a larger archival infrastructure operates. The BFC/A is small and rather insular, with its own standards and practices. It does, however, exist within a larger Archives environment, not just on the IU Bloomington campus but throughout the IU network of campuses.
