Brad Haney
Employer: Riverview Health
Current position: Operations Liaison
Location: Noblesville, IN
Degree(s): IUPUI – BSHSM 2021
Why did you choose your major/program?
It was closely related to my previous career as a paramedic.
Briefly describe your career path.
I worked in the restaurant field as a cook for several years. Took an EMT class and I was hooked on EMS. Received my paramedic certificate and worked for the City of Indianapolis. During this time I also served in the Navy Reserve as a Corpsman, which exposed me to management and leadership opportunities.
Describe what an average day for you might be like.
Solving problems. Managing projects. Observing and improving systems.
What advice would you give your college self about pursuing your current career path or industry?
Do not stress about finding a job. There are plenty of jobs out there. Finding a career is harder, especially right out of school. Look for something that interested you in healthcare and spend some time learning your new role. You will have a chance to see other parts of the healthcare arena. You may even see your future career track. Working as a manager at Abercrombie or the local gym is great experience. Healthcare is a different environment and adjusting to the culture in healthcare is as important as learning to apply your new skills.
What is a lesson learned at FSPH that you have been able to apply to your career?
Have someone else look at your work and ask questions. Chances are, the boss is going to ask the same ones.
What is the most significant thing that’s happened to you since graduating?
Was lucky enough to find a role at an organization that I fit in well with. Completed my EPIC Business Intelligence Developer training track and certification.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What’s next for you?
Retirement … hopefully.
What is your favorite IUPUI/FSPH memory?
Interview day was so much fun.
