MS+DI students with work experience as food system managers or clinical dietitians may be given credit for scheduled MS+DI program experiences following demonstration of competency. Unique experiences designed to enhance the competencies of these MS+DI students will replace the usual MS+DI program assignments. No change in total billable credit hours will be permissible.
To qualify for prior work experience credit, the MS+DI student must have a minimum of six months’ full-time employment as a food systems manager or clinical dietitian. MS+DI students seeking prior work experience credit will be assigned to an experienced preceptor who will evaluate their competency following an agreed-upon length of time, usually one to two weeks. For example, a MS+DI student with significant experience as a dietitian would be assigned to an experienced preceptor for the Clinical II nutrition rotation. At the end of the week, the preceptor would evaluate the student’s performance. Students will be given credit for the hours achieved through prior experience. Subsequent rotations will be designed based on the competency level and the particular interests of the student. MS+DI students judged to have insufficient competency would complete the usual MS+DI program assignments.
