This month’s staff member in the spotlight is Troy Byler, Director of the Advance College Project. We asked him a series of questions, and here’s what he had to say (responses may have been edited for concision and clarity):
What is your name and what do you do; how long have you worked here in OVPUE?
My name is Troy Byler and I became the Director of ACP at the beginning of this year.
What three traits define you?
- Contemplative
- Good sense of judgement
- Steadfast
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Forester or electronic engineer
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Speak Finnish fluently
What challenging thing has happened (to) for you, and what did you gain from it?
Became Director of ACP during the outbreak of Covid-19. I gained a greater appreciation for all of the staff members in my team.
How do you define success?
Success is being able to know that what you have done has helped others.
What do you do in your spare time?
Harvest firewood. Fix anything broken. Cook. Watch movies. Play board games. Travel with my wife.
What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?
Younger generation caring about the environment and the impact that humans have on limited resources.
What is your favorite thing about working at OVPUE?
It is already in its name – Education. Bringing quality education to students.
