With the help of campus partners, Community & School Partnerships organizes fun, educational campus visits that allow precollege students to see what’s possible at IU and beyond. These photos are from three recent campus visits.
On October 30th, 8th-grade students from Avondale Meadows Middle School in Indianapolis, IN visited the McCalla museum where Paul Shircliff led students in a windmill-building exercise. When completed, students could see their windmills generating electricity to power a small LED light. Students used tools from the Uplands Maker Mobile to assemble their projects.

On November 11th, 11th-grade students from the International School of Indiana in Indianapolis, IN visited the Luddy school to participate in an interactive lecture on cybersecurity and the internet of things (everyday objects connected to the internet), which can often pose significant security risks. Joshua Streiff demonstrated how ill-conceived childrens’ toys could be easily hacked by malicious actors to steal personal data or attempt kidnappings.

On November 14th, 8th-grade students from Owen Valley Middle School in Spencer, IN visited campus to experience residential dining at McNutt Quad. Students quickly swarmed the self-service ice cream and dessert stations before seeking out pasta bowls, pizza, breakfast foods, and more. The visit concluded with a short survey to gauge whether the visit had influenced students’ aspirations to attend IU.
