OVPUE Staff gathered in March to present and discuss projects and ideas at the Success Forum. Since then, multiple initiatives have seen progress featuring collaboration across VPUE departments.
Here are a few examples:
Peer coaching expansion
Alice Dobie, Associate Director of Advising with the University Division, presented on peer academic coaches. UD has since confirmed the expansion of phone outreach by peer coaches to specific populations and discussed further involving coaches in courses for exploratory students.
Reaching students through social media
Since the success forum, Marketing has done research to identify key channels in which to reach students in the most effective way. We have decided, for now, to push important information and events through social channels to limit the amount of emails in students’ inboxes.
“Connection, Engagement, and the College Experience”
Staff from the University Division, Career Development Center, and the Student Academic Center worked together to update the EDUC-X 152 course for incoming UD exploratory students.
Presenters included UD’s Matt Graham, Myc Wiatrowski of the School of Public Health, the CDC’s Rachel Gerber, and Anthony Guest-Scott of the SAC. The course is now available in the Fall 2023 Schedule of Classes.
“This first-semester course focuses on helping students to build strong social connections, upgrade their academic skills to deepen their learning, and make important decisions about classes and majors as they connect those choices to a life of fulfilling work, service to others, continued learning, and joy,” Guest-Scott said.
Advising data
Clinton Roeth-McKay of OVPUE IT presented on updates to data for advisors. Since then, additional detail regarding online courses has been added with further student FYE information expected to be available and helpful for advisors.
“We’re expecting some new requests and feedback from advisors once NSO begins this summer,” Roeth-McKay said.
High School Honors
IU High School Online inducted 39 students into its first National Honor Society chapter. NHS chapters are prevalent in schools across the country and internationally, serving more than one million students.
“These IUHS students reside around the globe, From Bahrain to Bloomington, and exhibit excellence every day in scholarship, service, leadership, and character,” IUHS principal Rebecca Itow said.
