This month’s staff member in the spotlight is Ali McConnell, the Communications and Marketing Manager for OVPUE. We asked her a few questions and here’s what she had to say:
What is your name and what do you do; how long have you worked here in OVPUE?
My name is Ali McConnell, I’m the Communications and Marketing Manager at OVPUE. I started in August of 2022, and I wear many hats. I oversee and execute all marketing needs from headshots to Salesforce sends to social media needs.
What three traits define you?
I would have to say dedicated, perfectionist, and passionate. In both my personal and professional lives I love to produce great work about things that I feel strongly about. Whether that be taking an Instagram photo for a friend or sending an important email to students, I strive to give the best product.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I think I would be an influencer and a stay at home mom. I love taking care of the house and am excited for my own little family! Plus being an influencer would bring in pay while getting to showcase great products that could help others.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn how to speak other languages. Other cultures have always fascinated me, and I have always wanted to speak other languages in addition to English and my very limited knowledge of French.
What challenging thing has happened (to) for you, and what did you gain from it?
Both of my great grandmas passed away in the same month my Freshman year of college. I was very close to them both, so it was earth-shattering. I learned that I have to love hard because you never know when one day will be someone’s last. I gained a deeper appreciation for those I love and creating more time for family.
How do you define success?
Success is different for everyone. For me it’s knowing I gave my all and produced the best work. I’m definitely a people pleaser, but I love to know that I am giving my all in anything that I create.
What do you do in your spare time?
I work out, hike with my husband and doggos, clean (a lot), and hang out with friends!
What is a favorite book, movie, and/or tv show that had an impact on you?
I would have to go with the Harry Potter series. It’s nostalgic, inspiring, and exciting. I have fond memories going to see each of these movies at the midnight premiers with my dad. It was this amazing dreamland that I would be transported to every time I watched. It was a great tradition with my dad, and I so cherish the time we get together but especially if it is rewatching the series.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
I would love to go to Ireland or Scotland. I think they would both be beautiful. I can feel the calm that these countries emanate from images I’ve seen, and I need to experience it!
What is your favorite thing about working at OVPUE?
The people! I feel so blessed to know everyone who works here. It’s been such a welcoming place to work. I also love the flexibility with schedules. It’s huge to have work life balance.
