As we settle into our new work life, it may be time to start thinking about how to engage and connect with our teams in a new way!
Bloomington Evaluation and Testing did just that on Friday, May 15, when they held their annual staff retreat via Zoom. It was scheduled to be at the YMCA, but those plans were canceled back in March. So, BEST’s Assistant Director Krisy Mahome shifted gears and began planning a virtual retreat.
Utilizing tools from IUHR’s Healthy IU website like the wellness wheel (pictured), and inviting guest presenters to discuss topics like “Workplace Resilience During Times of Change” and “8 Dimensions of Wellness,” BEST was able to engage staff in a meaningful way and build a new connection out of our shared experience.
During the retreat, each staff member also had an opportunity to present a project they worked on, and a new skill they learned, as it relates to their job and for professional development. Topics included Microsoft Excel, WCMS, Microsoft Access, and an OCQ Documentation project.
OVPUE’s Human Resources Manager, Anita Harden, met with BEST staff in the afternoon to share some low impact, at-home exercises folks can do at their desk to stay moving and motivated.
Great work to BEST for getting creative with their staff retreat this year! If you have ideas on retreat topics, or would like to share something your unit is doing, comment below.
