The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum was one of the most fascinating and richest parks I have seen. Although the park may seem like any other park for many foreign visitors, according to the tour guide, the previous polo field was the site where Kwame Nkrumah gave his inaugural speech after achieving independence from the British. The museum inside the park featured photographs of the first prime minister and president of Ghana with many celebrities such as Muhammad Ali and world leaders, including former prime minister of Cuba Fidel Castro and former United States president John F. Kennedy.
One of the topics I wanted to explore in-depth included the early independence of Ghana. The fascinating history, from an American perspective, concerns the US involvement in the coup d’ etat and exile of Kwame Nkrumah. This visit completely changed my perspective toward Kwame Nkrumah, fueling me to read more about him and becoming one of my personal inspirations.
