I spent an incredible four months abroad in Spain and I had the opportunity to travel to other European countries as well. I was lucky enough to be in Seville during the spring where they celebrate Semana Santa and Feria de Abril where the whole city participates in the festivities. During Semana Santa people gather to see figures/images from different brotherhoods in the city as they travel from their church to the cathedral during the week following up to Easter. Feria de Abril is a time for the whole city to participate in the fair activities while dancing ‘Sevillanas’ and dressed in Flamenco dresses. It truly feels like the whole city comes together to celebrate in a way that I could not have imagined.
While abroad I also had the opportunity to travel to other European cities. One of my favorites would have to be London, as I got to walk across Abbey Road with a friend, just as in the well-known Beatles album cover. I also got to see the palace guards at Buckingham Palace and even had the chance to see the inside of Prince William and Prince Harry’s residence, Kensington Palace. I was able to see the old-fashioned trams in Lisbon as well as a bridge that looked like the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and a statue that was very similar to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. I also had the opportunity to visit Gaudi’s unfinished life work, la Sagrada Familia, which is unlike any church that I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to get to experience so many iconic sites and I hope I have the chance to continue exploring more of the world.
