We visited Okyehene’s Palace to meet the chiefs of the Kyebi Traditional Area in Ghana.
Before getting to meet the chief, I witnessed a sacrifice, which is a traditional ritual in the area. The sacrifice occurred to resolve a dispute that was brought to the chief’s court. During the ritual, libation is poured to the ancestors and a sheep was sacrificed. I thought it was very interesting because I hadn’t learned much about this part of their religious rituals.
I was very excited to meet the chief. He gave us a warm welcome by allowing us to shake his hand and then giving us a brief speech. My favorite part of his speech was when he insisted that women are very important in the world and should be more respected and treated equally as men. I am so glad I got the opportunity to meet him and I will never forget the visit to his palace.
