The first coconut I had from Ghana was when I at arrived at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel. I must say Ghana has the best coconuts and mangoes. The best part was that you can find them just about anywhere especially if they are in season and that the fruit was fresh. The mangoes in Ghana were huge, extremely sweet, delicious, and cost about $1.00. Many of the vendors obtained the fruit from their own fruit trees and sold them on the side of the street. I’ve traveled to Mexico where the fruits were very tasty, but it did not compare to the fruit in Ghana.
Even better than eating mangoes and coconuts, was trying a cacao bean before it was dry. Prior to tasting them, I did not even know what cacao beans looked like before they were dried. However, the bean reminded me of a little brain. Of course, it’s not a brain, the beans were edible. I learned that you can suck on the bean to get a unique taste. The bean tasted sweet almost like passion-fruit. They too are delicious. Therefore, if given the opportunity to go back and eat the fruit and cacao beans in Ghana, I would!
