Marylis Fantoni, a Ph.D. candidate in public affairs at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been selected as an Equity and Inclusion Fellow by the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
Fantoni’s research explores citizen interactions with the government in various settings, including her native country of Brazil. She focuses on topics related to gender, representation, maternal health, and administrative burdens.
“I am very happy to be an APPAM Equity and Inclusion Fellow because it is a sign that the field of public policy analysis and management values diversity and celebrates different contexts,” Fantoni said. “There is so much that we can learn in terms of policy implementation with different backgrounds. With my research being focused and carried out in the Brazilian context, I am eager to spread best practices on the topic of domestic violence and share what has been working well in Rio de Janeiro.”
The APPAM Equity and Inclusion Fellowship Program supports students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds by providing the opportunity to attend APPAM’s Fall Research Conference. The program helps recipients engage with the field of public policy and APPAM’s network, encouraging long-term involvement and connection.
At the conference, Fantoni will present her paper, Reimagining Policing – At Their Fingertips: What Is the Impact of Online Reporting of Domestic Violence? She will also chair a panel discussing nonprofit service delivery.
Fantoni and other fellowship recipients will be honored at the APPAM Fall Research Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, Nov. 21-23.
