Jennifer Brass, an associate professor at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been named a 2023 Fellow of the Governance and Local Development Institute at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
The GLD, one of the most prestigious research centers studying the factors driving governance and development, provides scholars the opportunity to engage with others who share their interests and enhances GLD research. Brass is an expert on service provision, governance, and state development, with a primary geographic focus on sub-Saharan Africa.
“Being named a GLD Fellow provides recognition and validation from the leading global research center that is focused on the type of research that I do,” Brass said. “It’s an exciting opportunity to engage with scholars from around the world who share a passion for understanding governance and development at the local level.”
As part of the GLD Fellowship, Brass has been invited to attend the 2023 GLD Annual Conference in May, she will take part in GLD’s Work-in-Progress workshop series, and she will receive research support services.
“Interacting with the researchers at GLD and the other 2023 Fellows will facilitate valuable feedback on work in progress as well as inspiration for new publications,” Brass said. “I hope that it also allows for access to the Local Governance Performance Index (LPGI) data that GLD has gathered in recent years, which would be invaluable in my research on service provision and governance in Kenya.”
