In Honor of National Transfer Week, Public Management and Leadership major Cassie Allen shared some reflections on transferring to the O’Neill School from Ivy Tech.
On the transfer process –
O’Neill made the transfer process pain free! My advisor made it pretty simple, explained my transfer credits, and even helped me pick up an extra one by resubmitting a class to be evaluated for transfer credits.
On finding my way –
IU, particularly O’Neill, has a lot to offer students. One big thing for me is the guidance you get all the way through. As a first-generation college student, I felt pretty lost sometimes. O’Neill doesn’t make me feel that way. I have never felt like just a number here. I was scared heading into my first year, but I did not need to be. The support has been amazing.
Don’t go it alone
Once you’re here, utilize all the tools O’Neill has to offer. Talk to your advisor—they are a wealth of knowledge. Utilize the Career Hub to help with your professional life. Don’t just try and get through your time here alone when there are so many resources available.
Why choose O’Neill?
O’Neill has some of the top-rated public affairs degrees in the country. Double win, in-state tuition!
My favorite thing –
Is the mission statement, “Lead for the Greater Good.” I think all O’Neill students want to make a difference, and knowing my goals align with the goals of the school is really important to me.
Turning passion into action
At O’Neill, I’ve studied real problems in this country and how to address them. I have always been passionate about injustices and societal issues, and now I am learning how to turn that passion into action.
