It’s National Transfer Week! To help new transfer students get the most out of their time at O’Neill, senior Healthcare Management and Policy major Rachel Moneta shared a few tips from her own transfer experience.
1. Join a student organization at O’Neill
By joining a student organization, you can get more involved in your field of interest and network with your peers. It will boost your resume and your experience at Indiana University. Every O’Neill student will be able to find an organization that fits their interests.
2. Utilize the Career Hub
The O’Neill Career Hub has a dedicated team of professional staff that will assist in your professional development. By learning how to network, interview, build a competitive resume, etc., the Career Hub can help you land an internship or job.
3. Attend your professors’ office hours
Attending office hours can not only help you better grasp course material and succeed in the class, but it can also help you get to know your professor better and get career advice. Meeting with your professors during their office hours and talking about their past work and accomplishments is worthwhile because you may find inspiration or get ideas for your own career.
4. Consult IU’s Credit Transfer Service
IU’s Credit Transfer Service shows you how the courses taken at your previous university transfer to IU. This service will help you understand how your transfer credits will satisfy degree requirements.
5. Utilize your Academic Advisor
O’Neill has advisors that can help guide your academic plan and decisions. It is critical that transfer students utilize their academic advisor, as they will help you have the smoothest transition possible. You can meet the O’Neill advising team here.
