Martha Steinkamp Sherman (1911-2012) was a midwestern multidisciplinary artist whose work included fiber arts, applique, painting, and graphic design and printmaking. Sherman earned degrees in Applied Arts and Education at the University of Cincinnati and, at various points in her life, taught there was well.
Martha was well known in the Ohio art community as well as the southern Indiana art community, where her artwork was featured at IU’s Museum of Art (before it was the Eskenazi Museum). She also worked in and around Bloomington and was an instructor at the university.
The O’Neill School is home to two of Sherman’s artworks: one fiber art / applique piece and the other a large painting, showing her skill in different media.
