Charles “Chuck” Bonser served as the inaugural dean of the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs from 1972-1989. In 1971, Bonser was appointed as the special assistant to the president of Indiana University, where was was tasked with outlining and planning the university’s new school. During his 17-year tenure as dean, the school became one of the largest and highest-rated public affairs schools in the United States. Upon his retirement, Bonser received a Presidential Citation from the president of Indiana University.
Beyond IU, Bonser has been the director of the Indiana State Tax and Financing Policy Commission, chairman of the Great Lakes Intergovernmental Personnel Council, and special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (Dr. Otis Bowen).
