Didactic information:
“Dr. John D. Graham studied at Wake Forest University where he was an award-winning debater. He earned graduate degrees in public affairs at Duke University and Carnegie Mellon University. Findings from his dissertation were cited in the US Supreme Court’s decision supporting automobile airbag regulation.
Graham was recruited to the Harvard School of Public Health, where he earned tenure at age 34 due to his contributions to the global field of risk analysis. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to lead the regulatory-review unit in the White House Office of Management and Budget, from 2001 to 2006. He stimulated lifesaving regulations at FDA and EPA, scrapped unnecessary business regulations, and fostered harmonization of US and European regulatory practices.
During Graham’s deanship (2008-2019), the number of students and faculty more than doubled. He emphasized faculty research on both the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses, expanded study abroad opportunities, added new programs on energy, health care, and manufacturing, and cultivated a wide variety of donors. While serving at the RAND Corporation (2006-2008), Graham established a relationship with RAND director Paul O’Neill, and deepened that relationship at IU. After his service as Dean, graham returned to the classroom, where he loves teaching undergraduates.”
