Konishi Seiichirō (b. 1919) was an accomplished woodblock print artist of the Sosaku Hanga (or “Creative Print”) movement, Konishi’s self-carved and printed works focus on the architecture, famous sites, and natural beauty of his home region.
Konishi formally studied oil painting and design, but taught himself the aspects of woodblock printing. In 1950, he exhibited his prints in Kyoto, marking his first solo print show. He later participated in many solo and group shows throughout his short career, including group shows with Shin Seisaku Kyokai and Dokuritsu Bijutsu Kyokai. Konishi’s works appeared in 1961 exhibitions of modern Japanese print held in Kiev and Moscow.
