Recorded sessions from the OmniSOC Year 3 Virtual Event, featuring the panel “A SOC supporting scientific research initial lessons and insight from the ResearchSOC experience” are now available on YouTube.
The playlist of the event’s nine sessions includes:
- “Welcome and state of the OmniSOC,” a live stream and virtual “fireside chat” with IU Vice President for Information Technology and CIO Rob Lowden and Associate Vice President for Information Security and OmniSOC Executive Director Von Welch.
- “The case for the higher education SOC,” with Von Welch and OmniSOC SOC operations manager Scott Orr.
- “Leveraging OmniSOC and existing cybersecurity staff,” a panel with OmniSOC Founding Members hosted by IU CISO Andrew Korty.
- “Cybersecurity as we emerge from the pandemic: restoring, evolving, and transforming,” a panel with OmniSOC Founding member CIOs from, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Northwestern University, Rutgers University, and Indiana University, hosted Kim Milford, executive director of the Research and Education Networks Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC).
- “A SOC supporting scientific research initial lessons and insight from the ResearchSOC experience,” a panel discussing the ResearchSOC’s initial experience in its engagements with National Science Foundation (NSF) major facilities, with a focus on the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). The discussion feature NRAO CIO David Halstead and ResearchSOC deputy director Susan Sons.
- “OmniSOC infrastructure and threat hunting, how OmniSOC hunts threats,” with OmniSOC platform engineering manager and CISO CJ Kloote and Scott Orr.
- “Research opportunities with OmniSOC and ResearchSOC data,” a panel for researchers hosted by Inna Kouper, research scientist at Indiana University.
- “Elastic Update new and current features for threat hunting,” from OmniSOC’s technology partner Elastic.
- The event’s “Closing Remarks” session video features OmniSOC’s newest member Santa Clara University (SCU). SCU’s CIO Robert C. Owen and CISO Kristen Dietiker and Von Welch discuss how smaller colleges can benefit from OmniSOC membership and provide a wrap up of the OmniSOC virtual event.
The video “OmniSOC: a cyber security operations center for higher education” also provides an overview of OmniSOC’s history and capabilities.
The OmniSOC Year 3 Anniversary Event was held February 24-26, 2021. Over 124 higher education and research professionals attended.
