“Receiving the Emerging Scholar Award in June 2023 first simply caught me off guard. I didn’t expect to receive such recognition for my work, after often hearing many times how ‘different’ my research is from the usual expected research at a business school. So my first reaction was a huge feeling of gratefulness, and happy tears. The first was also my feeling when my proposal with Professor Lucas Meijs, to edit a special issue for the Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society in September 2020, was accepted. My Ph.D. journey took a huge turn, both in depth and speed, and I continued to come across scholars and students who were working on similar projects, with similar passion and fire in their hearts. Being part of the MPI community, and getting the recognition for it, truly marked my path in academia, and my personal life as an academic. It feels like ‘a warm bath’ as the Dutch saying goes, and I must admit that I love taking warm baths.”
