Wonder Totes made me so nervous at first! Selecting 3 special titles for a school age kid based on the answers they gave through a website form. For someone who hasn’t taken a Reader’s Advisory or Reference class, I wasn’t sure I’d be good at it.
However as I read the young readers’ submissions that were assigned to me, I began to feel excited. One of them wanted nonfiction and graphic novels – my favorites, yay! The other two loved mysteries which gave me a great excuse to explore new jFic mysteries. They each had specific interests that made it challenging to select just 3 titles for each kid. They also each had very clear limits to their interests: no girl books! no kissing books! no scary books! This was a look right into the librarian’s role of interacting with patrons. I hadn’t experienced this yet due to MCPL being closed to the public. It was really exciting and I absolutely love the choices I made for each kid (and I hope they love them as well)!
Oh, I also did a photoshoot for the History Hangout so that MCPL Marketing staff could put it out on social – enjoy =)
