Any iPhone users out there? Our next guest post is tells what changes to expect with the new phones!
2018 is expected to be the year that Apple will change its entire iPhone lineup dramatically, not just in terms of display size, but also in terms of pricing. There are a lot of changes to be expected in the new iPhone X models that the iPhone maker is expected to launch this September. According to the reports and rumors that have been circulating around, there are a number of secret features and surprises that the American smartphone giant has in store for its customers. Some of the changes that are to be expected this year are outlined below:
New Charger
Apple has been doing some catching up where the charging of smartphones is concerned. Last year, the company introduced a wireless charger with its iPhone 8 and iPhone X and this year, it is expected that the Cupertino, California giant will add a ‘fast’ charger to the complete packages of its new iOS smartphones of this year. The addition of this charger will allow more power to be added in only a very short time period.
The fact is that a fast charger was already an Apple product, but available as an accessory. But, adding it to the box would enable the firm to add more retail value to its phones and compete with devices like Samsung Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6. However, the standout feature of these fast chargers is that they are USB-C based. This means that the upcoming iPhone will boast a USB-C lightning charging cable.
New Colors, Models and Price
There will be three versions of the iPhone in stores this year. This lineup includes two OLED models, which will be approximately 5.8 inch and 6.5 inch respectively and will be direct successors of the iPhone X. A new model will also be launched, which will have a 6.1 inch LCD screen, which will also look like an iPhone X, but will be with a cheaper price tag.
Moving onto colors, the original iPhone X that was launched in November 2017 was available in 2 colors; black and white. Apple did not add any more colors to the lineup since then. The 6.5 inch version, which is being called the iPhone X Plus, will be released in about three colors, which are gold, black and white. It is highly likely that the 5.8 inch versions will also be available in the same colors. But, as far as color choices for the 6.1 inch version is concerned, they are expected to be more varied. The rumors suggest that this device will be available in white, grey, red, orange and blue. This seems like the same strategy that Apple followed with the iPhone 5c.
In terms of price, it is expected that the price tag of the iPhone X Plus will be the same as last year’s iPhone X i.e. $1,000. The cheaper model i.e. the 6.1 inch phone will be priced at $700.
Performance
Reports indicate that a full year of underwhelming performance stagnation is to be expected in the new models of the iPhone. The upcoming model is expected to have only a 10% higher single-core performance and 5% increase in multi-core performance as compared to the last year model. This could be a problem for some iPhone fans because it means that Samsung’s models would be outperforming the iPhones. Nonetheless, there are still things to be optimistic about. The previous models had about 3GB RAM, but will be increased to 4GB. Similarly, the L1 Instruction Cache and Data Cache has also gotten a boost from 32KB to 128KB. This will definitely help the phones make up for the multitasking shortcomings of the iPhones in contrast with Android smartphones.
Other than that, Apple has already stated that iOS 12 is going to be far more fluent and efficient as opposed to iOS 11, which was rather troubled. This could be an excellent time for you to sell your iPhone or Android device and save up for one of the new iPhone models.
On a whole, the internal changes are not as drastic as expected, but Apple is definitely making some noticeable changes in hardware. A third camera lens is also expected to be included, but we have to wait for the traditional September event to see what happens.
