Frederic Chiu appears at major venues on five continents (Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, the Paris Châtelet) as well as performing extensively in smaller venues. He collaborates with Classical friends Joshua Bell, Pierre Amoyal and the St. Lawrence String Quartet, as well as with jazz pianist Bob James or storyteller David Gonzalez, to bring vivid concert experiences to audiences. Chiu has over 28 recordings, including the most extensive set of Prokofiev’s piano works, and works of Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Mendelssohn and many others.
Frederic Chiu is known for his innovative programming, including “Classical Smackdown”, a series where composers are presented in head-to-head comparisons with listeners voting for their favorite, as well as recordings of the music of Gurdjieff/de Hartman, and works of Debussy and Gao Ping. A favorite of public radio, he is a regular on St. Paul Sunday and Performance Today. He teaches at both Carnegie Mellon (Pittsburgh) and the Hartt School of Harford University (CT). www.fredericchiu.com
