What airport should I fly to?
If you are flying to Bloomington, you should fly into the Indianapolis International Airport (IND). Most people take the Go Express airport shuttle to get from Indianapolis to Bloomington, which is about an hour’s drive south of the airport. Please note that most airlines do not allow children under the age of 15 to leave the airport by themselves, and Piano Academy staff are unfortunately not able to pick students up from the airport directly.
When should I plan to check in/check out?
Students are asked to check in between 12pm-3:30pm on Saturday, June 21, and all activities are planned to finish around 3:30pm on Saturday, July 5.
What if I need to arrive early/leave late?
If a student is arriving 1-2 days before the check-in date or departing after our check-out date, we can potentially let them check in early/check out late from the dorms for an additional cost–however, this requires special permission from the Director.
What is a typical day like for a Piano Academy student?
While each day may vary slightly, click here to see a typical daily schedule!
Can I bring a concerto movement as one of my pieces to perform and/or work on in lessons?
Absolutely! Students that wish to perform a concerto movement will be accompanied by one of our duet faculty on second piano.
What is dorm housing like for Piano Academy participants?
Dorm housing is subject to change from year to year, but we are almost always in Spruce Hall. Several dedicated live-in counselors – these are mostly graduate piano students – stay in the dorms with the participants to ensure their safety and well-being. In 2025, participants will stay in double rooms, shared with a fellow Academy participant.
What is Feldenkrais?
Piano Academy offers optional Feldenkrais classes (5 classes over the course of the 2-week Piano Academy session.) The Feldenkrais method emphasizes healthy, mindful movement and an integration of mind and body. Click here to read more!
What is the schedule like on the last day?
On the last Saturday of the Academy, students will pack and clean their rooms in the morning. Then, typically starting at around 1pm, we have our Gala Duet Recital and closing ceremonies. All students will be performing with their duet partners in this recital, so families are welcome to attend! This event typically ends around 3:15pm, after which students will return to the dorm to grab their packed bags and finish any cleaning before they depart with their families or on the airport shuttle, if they have booked one.
