Edward Auer, Professor of Piano at the Jacobs School, studied as a youth with Aube Tzerko, a Schnabel protégé, before attending Juilliard under the guidance of Rosina Lhevinne and pursuing finishing studies with Julius Katchen in Paris. Though most often identified with Chopin’s music, he has demonstrated consummate artistry in repertoire from Mozart to 20th century masters. He has toured extensively, performing solo recitals and concerti in over 30 countries on 5 continents.
The first American to win a prize in the Warsaw Chopin Competition, Auer has toured Poland over 20 times. Auer was also winner of the Young Concert Artists and Marguerite Long competitions, and a laureate in the Tchaikovsky, Queen Elizabeth and Vienna Beethoven competitions. He still tours actively, notably in Asia, and has served on the juries of prestigious competitions. For several years, he has pursued an ambitious series of recordings of Chopin’s works, projected to eventually reach 8 vols.
