Hailed for her “expressive and powerful playing”, “formidable technique”, as well as her “keen sense of lyricism and the classical style.” (Columbus and Richmond Times Dispatch), pianist Caroline Hong continues to flourish in her career as an internationally active soloist, chamber musician, master teacher, lecturer, jury member, and recording artist. Favorably reviewed by American Record Guide, she has recorded for Fleur de Son and Mark Records, establishing herself as an interpreter of twentieth and twenty-first century piano solo music. She has been featured on numerous radio and television broadcasts worldwide. Hong made her debut at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall as a winner of the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition. She participated in the Van Cliburn International Audition, Robert Casadesus International Competition, William Kapell International Piano Competition, and UNISA International Piano Competition, among others. She has been a featured performer on Robert Sherman’s Young Artists Showcase (WQXR) and countless other radio broadcasts throughout the nation and abroad. She has studied with luminaries such as Martin Canin, Jerome Lowenthal, Sergei Babayan, Dmitrii Paperno, Ann Schein, Karen “Doc” Shaw, James Tocco, and Marylou Deitzer. Hong is an alumnus of the IU Jacobs School of Music (D.M.), The Juilliard School (M.M.), and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins (B.M). She currently serves as professor and area head of piano at The Ohio State University. Her students have won competitions and positions in music academia. She is a Steinway Artist, a recipient of the Steinway Top Teacher Award, founder of the American Liszt Society Ohio Chapter, American Liszt Society Board Member, executive and artistic director of the Franz Liszt (U.S.) International Festival and Piano Competition. Other professional affiliations include Columbus Symphony Orchestra where she holds the Reinberger Foundation Chair. This summer she will be serving as artist-faculty for the Pianale International Piano Competition and Academy.
