By now, you will have received an email announcing that IU has adopted a new career portal called HANDSHAKE, which replaces the Symplicity system we’ve been using in the Jacobs School of Music for the past 6 years. This is very good news! The new system is easier to use, more focused on your professional interests, and gives you access to a wide array of professional opportunities. As with the previous system, the JSoM Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development will be using HANDSHAKE to coordinate all career advising and career development events.
Please take a moment to check out HANDSHAKE
- Log in by using your IU credentials here – https://app.joinhandshake.com/schools/1576
- Load up your resume and set up your profile by going through the initial survey
- For help with setting up your account, see here.
- You’ll need to decide on your profile privacy level: Community, Employers, or Private. You can read more about these options here.
Once you’re up and running, feel free to check in with any of us for an advising appointment! Summer’s a great time to review your career objectives and we’re always available to assist with your planning. Looking for jobs on Handshake? Here’s a FAQ put together by IU’s Walter Center.
A Note about Credentials
If any of you were using the Credentials Plugin for Symplicity, please note that we have downloaded your documents and can provide them to you. Going forward, we suggest that you use an online service such as Interfolio for your application materials and recommendations.
With best wishes,
