Graduate Theory Association

The Graduate Theory Association is an IU Student Organization that functions as a small scholarly society, presenting the Annual Symposium of Research in Music Theory (each year since 1994), co-sponsoring the Music Theory Colloquium Series, providing professional development opportunities, and hosting the fall recital, annual picnic, and other social events. The GTA invites graduate students from across campus and from various disciplines to exchange ideas about music theory in a relaxed setting.

Members are elected each year to represent the GTA to the Dean of the School of Music via the Student Representative Committee (SRC), and to the rest of the IU community via theĀ Graduate and Professional Student Government. All theory majors and theory AIs are automatically members of the GTA, but membership is open to any graduate student with an interest in music theory.

No fees or dues are charged, but members are encouraged to show their support by participating in GTA events and subscribing to theĀ Indiana Theory Review.
