“MOOD+” is a project based on performing 80-00s popular songs among in Asia, arrangements made by student composers and writers at IU, to explore the possibilities and difficulties of promoting and popularizing disparate genres of music among different cultural setting. “MOOD+” provide several seminars, public performances, and a final concert, Research topics will include the status quo of musicians after the pandemic, necessary information on music copyright and future music trends.
Yabing Lyu, comes from Xinjiang, China and is now a freshman studying piano performance at JSoM. She explores many artistic fields, concentrating on visual arts. She worked in the National Museum of China and at IU she’s now doing research on advertising and music industry besides studying music. Her music career and preference were hugely influenced by Sheena Ringo and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Lyu’s project strives to join people from various cultures through music- by connecting student composers with JSoM chamber musicians, she hopes to introduce cultures to each other through arrangement and re-composition of popular music from Asia. Passionate about the integration of citizens from various countries, she is encouraging students who have not previously been immersed in Asian culture to join her project.
