Guitarist and international prize winner Daniel Duarte and his innovative Electric Guitar Orchestra (EGO) will present a workshop at Paoli Jr-Sr High School on October 29th. The EGO will perform a variety of time-honored, popular songs, as well as selected classical music excerpts. Audience participants will be encouraged to share their own songs, licks, strumming patterns, and traditions, creating a vibrant, jam-like environment between classically trained musicians and local students. The workshop will also host an air guitar competition, present historical information about guitars, and give students a chance to conduct the ensemble.
The EGO, an ensemble of eight electric guitars, a bass guitar, and drums, leads audiences in discovering and rediscovering classical music through a new medium. Electric guitars have historically served as the building blocks of Rock and Pop bands, but have been excluded from the classical music universe. By performing a variety of styles ranging from Vivaldi, Bach, and Mozart to The Beatles, Queen, and Prince, the EGO expands electric guitar performance onto a broader musical scope. The ensemble utilizes the popularity of electric guitars, making more types of music relatable to audiences and delivering unexpected musical styles.
