Jay Hurst’s Still Lives to be read by Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Gilded featured on the I CARE IF YOU LISTEN Winter 2015 Mixtape
Jay Hurst has been selected to participate in the 2015 Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Earshot New Music Readings. Jay, one of four composers selected through a national call for scores by The Earshot Network, will receive a reading of his piece Still Lives by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of associate conductor, Stefan Sanders. Matt Recio’s Chronology of Storms to be Premiered by Faculty at Messiah College
Matthew Recio’s vocal cycle Chronology of Storms will be premiered at Messiah College in Pennsylvania by three faculty members. This work was a commission by Dr. Damian Savarino (Bass Vocalist) and will be a collaboration with Dr. William Stowman (Trumpet) and Professor Patrice Ewoldt (Piano). The work is a three movement set that sets three poems by contemporary writer and educator Jenna Lanzaro. The work explores the societal preparation and aftermath of hurricanes and the impact that they leave.
Grant Luhmann’s Signals and Echoes to be Featured on CD Release
Grant Luhmann’s quartet for bassoon and strings, Signals and Echoes, has been chosen for CD premiere and release in fall 2015 by Cayla Bellamy and other faculty performers of the University of Northern Iowa. The work, about 20 minutes in duration, will mark Grant’s CD debut.
Chris Neiner’s Toy Chest to Receive Performance in Boston
Chris Neiner’s miniature for horn trio, Toy Chest, will be performed by the Red Hedgehog Trio, a Boston-based chamber ensemble. Toy Chest will be premiered with the miniature trios of nine other composers at the 10X10 Upstreet Festival at the Whitney Center of the Arts in Pittsfield, MA on Feb. 15, at 4 pm.

Elizabeth Ogonek (BM ’09) Appointed CSO’s Next Mead Composer-in-Residence, Receives 2014 RPS Composition Prize
Elizabeth Ogonek has been appointed as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s next Mead composer-in-residence along with Yale composer Samuel Adams. The appointment will last for three years, and Elizabeth will receive a premiere by the CSO led by Riccardo Muti during the 2015-2016 season. Read the full release here.
In addition, Elizabeth has received the 2014 Royal Philharmonic Society’s Composition Prize. As a result, she is commissioned to write a work for Music in the Rounds’ May 2015 festival based on Rimbaud’s poem, Enfance. Read more…
