New Registration Information for Fall 2021 and beyond
Greetings!
Beginning in the fall semester of 2021, music majors and non-music majors will have two distinct course registrations when enrolling in the Singing Hoosiers.
Non-music majors will enroll in the following course in the coming academic year.
Course title: Singing Hoosiers for Non-Music Majors
Fall 2021: MUS-X 80 (section 46161)
Spring 2022: MUS-X 80 (section 31447)
Music majors in the Singing Hoosiers will continue to enroll in MUS X70.
The new course registration is purely for the ease of administrative record keeping. Non-music majors enrolling in the new course registration receive the exact same credit and participate in all Singing Hoosiers activities as in the past.
Be sure to check back soon for audition information for Fall 2021.
We are excited to begin the next academic year as we move closer to our normal activities!
Have a great summer!
Singing Hoosiers FAQs:
When do the Singing Hoosiers rehearse?
The Singing Hoosiers rehearse face-to-face every MTWRF from 4:25-5:25 PM. Our Varsity dancers are selected by audition and hold additional rehearsals on Sundays from 1-3 PM and MW’s from 5:45-7:00 PM.
Non-majors who have an unavoidable, regularly occurring conflict with a course for their major are sometimes permitted to “contract” on these days. By contracting, one is permitted to miss portions of a rehearsal with the expectation of making up any missed material.
What will the Singing Hoosiers look like this semester in regard to COVID-19?
The Singing Hoosiers will be meeting face-to-face as a full ensemble. Vaccination is required for all singers. We will follow any masking policies as communicated by the administration of the Jacobs School of Music. If you have any specific questions about health or safety concerns, please email Kaitlyn Phillips at kaigphil@iu.edu.
Do you need to be a music major in order to audition?
No! The Singing Hoosiers is open to any Indiana University student by audition. For non-music major, it is an elective course. You must register, but it is a FREE credit. For music majors, the Singing Hoosiers will count towards your concert choir credit.
