Lawrence Abernathy, DM alumnus of the Jacobs School Choral Department, is the artistic director of the newly formed Astra Ensemble in Kansas City, MO. Although this ensemble is in its nascent stages, its members have years of experience singing in choral groups such as The Crossing, Chanticleer, Spire Chamber Ensemble, Kansas City Chorale and more!
Shortly following their premier concert, they garnished praise from John Schaefer of classical music station 91.9 ClassicalKC.
“I recently had the privilege of hearing the inaugural concert of the ASTRA ENSEMBLE, comprised of eight excellent singers/musicians/artists. We in the audience learned that they prepared their eclectic repertoire in only three days of rehearsal! Their sound was well balanced and their diction flawless. They sang with tremendous joy. Already, I regard the ensemble to be as fine as Great Britain’s Voces 8. I very much look forward to their next concert!”
