All studentes in the Audio Engineering track are required to have a laptop computer capable of running Pro Tools by their second semester, when they enroll in A102. The computer and software will be used in classroom and lab instruction and for individual projects for the duration of the student’s studies. We are an Avid Learning Partner and offer Pro Tools Ultimate licenses at no charge to all students while they are enrolled in the Audio Engineering track.
We support both Macintosh and PC laptops. Our facilities have both platforms and students will regularly use both in their classroom and production work, so we have no specific preference for one or the other.
We also recommend students own at least two hard drives for class projects, primary and backup, and a good pair of headphones. Students may also want to purchase an audio interface. Check out our Technology Resources page for more information.
IU offers quite a bit of software including Microsoft Office 356 and Adobe Creative Cloud to students at no cost, as well as discounts on hardware through special agreement with manufacturers. Check out IUware online and the Computer Buying Guide before you make any purchases.
