First of all, Congratulations to all newly admitted students! It has been a true pleasure to welcome so many of you to campus for our audition weekends this year and, for me, it was especially exciting to see so many visit in February which actually marked my audition day number 100 for the Jacobs School of Music! I started in Jacobs Admissions in 2008 and the excitement surrounding our audition days when we see hundreds of talented musicians and dancers come to their first stop at the Musical Arts Center Lobby is both thrilling and humbling.
I am also pleased do be writing this first post on our blog where we are planning to share helpful information for admitted students and their families throughout the spring. Over the next several weeks, I will ask many of my colleagues on the faculty and staff as well as students to write posts where they discuss topics and aspects of the Jacobs School they find important and meaningful. Each day here is filled with countless opportunities to learn and experience music and art. Our nearly 1,600 students and our 200+ faculty members engaging in more than 1,100 concerts each year in addition to countless lectures, workshops, and clinics create a thriving environment practically unparalleled among schools. And, beyond the Jacobs School itself, the Indiana University Bloomington campus offers endless social and cultural experiences and a chance to study and learn about almost any subject or topic you can imagine.
My hope is that our blogs posts over the next several weeks will give you a behind-the-scenes look at life here at Jacobs. We will also remember, of course, that navigating the journey towards your first day on campus can be confusing and challenging. Admitted students are often receiving countless emails, letters, and messages from not only our school and our campus but other also schools where they have applied. We will therefore use to this blog space to post updates about processes, deadlines etc. that we feel may help you throughout this journey. As of right now, in early February, we have started offering admission to some of the students who auditioned and/or interviewed early. I should point out, however, that many students will not hear results until mid- to late March. One reason for this is that we have still one more audition weekend to go in early March. In addition, we are dependent on IU main admissions to complete their review before we can offer admission. IU main admission is working on new timeline this year and many will not hear about their admission to IU before March 15. The Jacobs admission decision will therefore come closer to April 1 in many cases.
For those who have been admitted, one important next step is to consider any scholarship that we may be able to offer. Please remember, however, that scholarships are reviewed separately and offered to you via email. Most scholarship offers will be sent in late March but prior to April 1.
Once again, congratulations to those who have been admitted to the Jacobs School! We are excited to hear what questions you may have throughout the spring and can’t wait to see you on campus in the fall!
