Hello! My name is Melissa Tatom and I am the Financial Aid & Scholarship Specialist here at the IU Jacobs School of Music. A born and raised Hoosier, I grew up in Bedford and have permanently resided in Bloomington since 2006. I have been in my role with JSOM since February 2023.
As we are starting to send out scholarship offers, my priority is getting your financial aid submitted to the IU Bursar. Once submitted to the Bursar, your music financial aid will be visible on your one.iu account as anticipated aid, then awards will be disbursed in two equal installments at the beginning of each semester.
To our incoming graduate students: Fee Remission Graduate Tuition Awards are not submitted to the Bursar until late July and will not be visible on your one.iu account prior to that submission. Also, since GTA is directly tied to tuition charges, this aid does not automatically disburse until you are enrolled in credits for the semester.
Here are some important notes regarding your Music Financial Aid:
- JSOM scholarships are merit-based, and all applicants are automatically considered for these awards based on your musical talent and level of accomplishment as demonstrated in your audition and/or interview.
- We have many generous donors who provide scholarships to support our music merit awards. During the Fall semester, some of your original music awards may be converted into these donor named scholarships. If you are the recipient of one of these generous scholarships, we ask that you provide a letter of thanks to the donor and participate in any donor related events throughout the school year.
- Awards renew automatically throughout the course of your degree program, as long as you are enrolled as a full-time student and remain in good academic standing (i.e., are not placed on academic probation & maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0).
- I encourage you to read through our full Financial Aid Policy on our website to find answers to any questions you might have.
- While JSOM only offers merit-based aid, Indiana University does have need-based aid opportunities available to you. Resources for those opportunities are provided below:
Congratulations on your admission to the Jacobs School of Music! If you have questions, let us know!
