I was asked to teach another library instruction session for M501. One of the students’ upcoming assignments is to write a book review. The instructor asked me to show students how to look up book reviews in various databases. In addition, we decided that the student’s needed more practice finding argument sources using various library databases.
The first half of the class was devoted to finding argument sources. I monitored student progress by talking to all of the students as they searched. I provided suggestions on how they could more efficiently search. The next part of the class was devoted to finding book reviews. I created a handout that I posed to a LibGuide that student was able to refer to in class and to keep for future reference to help them find book reviews.
Overall, the students were very successful in finding argument sources and book reviews.
